Computers were fun before they were work.
I have loved technology since I was a kid. Hold on: this is not an “I was a genius coding at six” story. I mostly played video games. There was a pirate—yarrr!—living under our condo who gave me bootleg cassettes full of Commodore 64 games.
Kid me did not know any better. Computers were fun. I made synth music, drew pictures, built crappy video games, and tinkered with anything I could get my hands on. For fun, not function. Let us be clear.
After more than 20 years as a professional developer, I have learned that most owners are not having the same experience. Technology often means risk, maintenance, nerd speak, and trying to figure out who to trust when everyone has something to sell.
That is why I want technology to feel useful, approachable, and freeing. It should make a business and its people more capable, create room to experiment, and remove frustrating work—not make you lose sleep or take time from the things you love. Life is too short to keep spinning our wheels.
